3.1. Mirroring Connections
Mirroring is how two
or more Cascade DataHubs link over a network or the Internet to
maintain identical data sets. For every mirroring
connection, you must assign one participant to be the
master, and the other to be the slave. This determines
which program initiates communication. Once communication
is established, the data is identical. Generally it is
recommended that the DataHub on the server or the machine least
likely to shut down act as the master, while the slave be on
the client machine.
To connect two Cascade DataHubs, first decide which DataHub
is to be the master, and which the slave. Then follow these
steps:
3.1.1. Configure the master DataHub
- On the machine where the master DataHub will run,
start the Cascade DataHub, right click on the DataHub
system-tray icon and choose
.
In the Properties window,
select
Mirroring
.
- In the Mirroring Master
section, check the box Act as a master for
mirroring....
- Determine which service or port number you wish
to use, and if necessary, change the default entry in
...on service/port from
4600 to your choice.
- Click OK to close the
Mirror Master window.
- Click OK to close
the Properties Window.
You are now ready to configure the slave DataHub.
3.1.2. Configure the slave DataHub
- With the Cascade DataHub running, right click on the
DataHub system-tray icon and choose
.
In the Properties window,
select
Mirroring
.
- Check the box Act as a mirroring slave
to these masters.
Click the Add Master...
button. This opens the Mirror
Master window.
Type in the following information:
- Host Name: the name or IP address of the computer
running the master Cascade DataHub.
- Service/Port: the port number or service name that is
entered in the Master
service/port entry box of the master
DataHub. The system provides a default number
which you can change if necessary.
- Local
domain: The domain in
which you plan to receive data.
- Remote
domain: the master Cascade DataHub
domain from which you plan to receive data.
Point names will be mapped from the remote domain
(on the master DataHub) into the local domain (on this
DataHub), and vice versa.
- Click OK to close the
Mirror Master window. The fields
in the Mirroring Slave table
of the Properties Window should now be filled
in.
- Click OK to close
the Properties Window.
Open the Data Browser and select the domain you
requested to mirror. If the master Cascade DataHub has been
correctly configured, you should now see all the master
DataHub data for that domain.
